French automotive manufacturer, Plastic Omnium plans to produce, through its joint venture PO-Rein, 60 000 hydrogen tanks per year to Chinese market of commercial vehicles.
The future mega-plant is already under construction and will cover an area of around 28 000 m2 in Jiading Hydrogen Park, which is one of the country’s main hydrogen development hubs. The new plant will boost Plastic Omnium’s production capacity, as the company already has its first hydrogen tank production plant in Shanghai, which has been running since the beginning of the year.
According to Plastic Omnium’s Chief Executive Officer, Laurent Favre : “this new plant is the concrete expression of our PO-Rein joint venture’s ambitions in the Chinese hydrogen mobility market. It gives us the production capacity we need to seize every opportunity and become one of the big winners in the transformation of mobility in the country”. It is noteworthy that the joint venture PO-Rein is the fruit of a partnership between Plastic Omnium and Chinese Rein Hytetc* launched in June of 2023.
The French group has set up an aim of reaching a revenue of 3 billion euros in hydrogen by 2030.
*Rein Hytec is a subsidiary of Shenergy Group and is a provider of complete hydrogen energy infrastructure and supply solutions, integrating R&D, manufacturing, sales, service and systems integration.
