At the end of December, a subsidiary of CIMC, the world’s largest container producer, unveiled the first liquid hydrogen tanker truck in China.
According to its designer, Zhangjiagang CIMC Sanctum Cryogenic Equipment Co, this 40 m3 capacity truck represents a major step forward. This tanker truck was the subject of a research programme supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology. It has also led to the development of several national storage standards.
While several manufacturers, including FAW, have already presented liquid hydrogen trucks, the question of transporting this very hydrogen (between the production site and the stations) had not yet been addressed. And apparently, the objective here is to develop a national network for the commercial transport of liquid hydrogen. China is also going to build its first liquid hydrogen production plant. It will be operated by Air Products in the Zhejiang province. The project was initially scheduled for 2022, as Reuters reports.
