“France could become one of the pioneering countries in this energy of the future,” estimated the President of the Republic on Monday in Toulouse.

France aims to accelerate research on natural hydrogen, also known as “white hydrogen.” This was affirmed by Emmanuel Macron on Monday, December 11th, in Toulouse, as the first research permit for white hydrogen reserves was granted in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques at the beginning of December. “We will allocate massive funding to explore white hydrogen,” declared the President of the Republic, without specifying the amounts involved, during a speech resembling an assessment two years after the launch of France 2030.

“We cannot let this resource sleep,” estimated Emmanuel Macron, asserting that “France could become one of the pioneering countries in this energy of the future.” According to the President of the Republic, this involves “reaching a milestone in terms of hydrogen availability” and “progressing towards the most environmentally friendly extraction techniques.”

Regarding the hydrogen sector, Emmanuel Macron ensures that the French are “the best and safest in Europe” due to its nuclear power plants, decarbonized electricity, low-carbon electrolysis enabling the production of clean hydrogen, and thanks to French gigafactories for electrolyzers.
