EU allocates 1 billion € for alternative fuels including hydrogen

Under the umbrella of the CEF* mechanism for European interconnection, a call for projects has been launched to install recharging stations along the European corridors.

Not to be confused with the AFIR directive, which sets the framework for future alternative energy stations, this call for projects is called AFIF (Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility). And it goes beyond roads, as it also aims to meet the objectives set by other initiatives such as Refuel Aviation and FuelEU Maritime.

In concrete terms, Europe is mobilising €1 billion to facilitate the setting up of recharging stations that will help to decarbonise transport. The call for projects covers mega-chargers for trucks, access to electricity and hydrogen at airports, as well as access to electricity at ports and the storage of hydrogen derivatives such as ammonia and methanol.
