In a video message broadcast during the European Hydrogen Week in Brussels, Minister Delegate for Industry Roland Lescure provided an update on the French strategy.
Speaking in English, the minister reiterated France’s major objectives, aiming for 6.5 gigawatts of electrolysis capacity by 2030. He also mentioned the allocation of 4 billion euros dedicated to low-carbon hydrogen production. While industry remains the priority, Roland Lescure also made reference to mobility in his video. He explained that long-distance transportation represents the means to strike a balance between battery electric and hydrogen technologies. For this purpose, establishing a hydrogen transportation infrastructure will be necessary.
The minister referenced the necessity of retrofitting the gas transportation network, emphasizing an economically viable solution.
The key information to note is that the national hydrogen strategy, outlined in 2020, will undergo a revision in the first half of 2024. Initially expected last summer, some anticipated its release by the end of this year. Therefore, there will be a few more months of waiting.
