In an article published on its website, the French institute reveals that the Directorate General for Energy and Climate (DGEC) has entrusted it with the coordination of a synthesis study earlier this month. The aim is to identify areas with high natural hydrogen potential in France, define possible production methods and promote the development of the industry. The study involves IFPEN teams and a dozen of French academic experts.
IFPEN is also leading the “Natural Hydrogen Task” initiated by the TCP H2 (Technology Collaboration Programme Hydrogen) of the International Energy Agency (IEA). Over a two-year period, and involving 31 academic and industrial experts from 16 countries, the task force aims to raise awareness of the state of research and industrial exploration of this new energy source, covering all scientific, technical, economic, legal and environmental aspects.
The Institute will be represented by Olivier Sissmann, an IFPEN researcher in geochemistry who has been studying natural hydrogen, its formation mechanisms and geological storage for over 10 years.
